Construction Storm Water Permits

The general permit authorizes storm water discharges from construction activity disturbing one or more acres and is applicable statewide. Also, the permit authorizes some discharges that are not entirely considered construction storm water (such as trench dewatering), as well as storm water discharges associated with on-site concrete and asphalt batch plants.

Industrial Storm Water Permits

This general permit covers new and existing point source discharges of storm water associated with industrial activity to surface waters of the State. The general permit requires the development and implementation of a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). The purpose of implementing an SWPPP is to minimize or eliminate the potential for contamination of storm water by industrial activities.

Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Areas

An MS4 is a conveyance or system of conveyances (including roads, catch basins, curbs, gutters, ditches, man-made channels, or storm drains). It is designed for collecting stormwater and is owned and operated by a public entity. MS4 areas are defined by USEPA as municipalities with populations greater than 100,000, and are also referred to as "urban areas". Ohio's definition of MS4 areas includes the urban areas, but adds more than 30 cities located outside of the the urban areas that are also covered by a storm water permit.
